Sometimes the top note of the voicing can be included.
For single note melodies check the range/transposition of the instrument.

That said, I would have lost out on so many amazing gigs had I not been able to read. Reading allows me to remain a freelance musician and do gigs at short notice in a variety of styles.Graemehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11286566036188873835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1261039648965688916.post-8999368808300896302009-05-07T14:08:00.000-04:002009-05-07T14:08:00.000-04:00Great post Cameron! I think the thing we do have to be aware of however when working together is retaining our musical integrity and not to be afraid of calling a spade a spade when it comes to ideas. I know I've sometimes regretted compromising and then not being entirely happy with the final result.

That said, there is sometimes no equal to jamming ideas with like minded musicans and the results can be truly exciting. Even if it was just scale patterns, he felt strongly that everything should be played as if it was full-fledged real life, ideally with a drum machine or Aebersold track or some other accompaniment. Even at the early stages of learning a new lick, he had me set a beat underneath it. If I couldn't nail the idea rhythmically and evenly, he had me slow the beat down until I could. Super valuable advice. Plus, programming all those practice tracks for myself laid the foundation for my hip-hop and electronica work.Ethanhttp://www.ethanhein.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1261039648965688916.post-46629500634961073562009-04-27T12:26:00.000-04:002009-04-27T12:26:00.000-04:00I needed that. This is something I'...Thanks for the blog Cameron!

This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately as I've been finishing and EP and thinking about how to market it.

Originally I was going to give the downloads away for free, and charge for various packages, growing in price, that include other goodies (bonus tracks, t-shirts, signed copies, etc.).

Then someone pointed out that the leap from free to charging something, even something nominal, is enormous. Downloading something for free is always just a click away. Very little effort, commitment or thought is put into it, and therefore, the downloads are easily forgotten about.

But having to pay for something requires a commitment on the part of the purchaser. They have to dig in their wallet for their credit card, type in the info, and wait for the approval BEFORE downloading the tracks. Even just that little bit of time spent buying it gives it a bit more value in the music fans' eyes. I think people are more willing to listen, and if they like it, share it, because it's something they've committed to via their bank account. Even if they paid $1 for it.

So I agree, free is not all it's cracked up to be.

Thanks again for the post!Angelahttp://www.angelaortiz.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1261039648965688916.post-16764104823609366432009-04-09T13:44:00.000-04:002009-04-09T13:44:00.000-04:00Great article. To the average person, this doesn't look like a link they'd want to send to a friend.

However, it seems to me that you're not really missing out on too much if somebody that gave you their email address wants to share your music with a friend. They are really doing you a favor and spreading the word. And when you tell them about your next show or album release, they'll probably tell their friend about that as well.Cameron Mizellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06987462748395371502noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1261039648965688916.post-6491633909293425032009-02-26T12:33:00.000-05:002009-02-26T12:33:00.000-05:00This is really useful, many thanks.Does anyone kno...This is really useful, many thanks.

Does anyone know how to generate a unique URL for the actual mp3 though, so users have to sign up to the newsletter rather than pass around a link.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1261039648965688916.post-10704604657970610492009-02-09T11:54:00.000-05:002009-02-09T11:54:00.000-05:00i'm having another show in my apartment in Boston ...i'm having another show in my apartment in Boston this coming Sunday (Feb 15).
